It is more than a week since I released my last plugin for associating unique header image with each single article of wordpress.
This time I am back again with another plugin “WP-NicEdit”.It’s is a wysiwyg type rich text editor for comments section.
As you may see from the original website of NicEdit(by Brian Kirchoff) http://nicedit.com,He has released a newer version of NicEdit,which has a better well defined API for extending it.
So I integrated it again to wordpress and that too much more easier than the previous version.
Current features include
1.wysiwyg editor(Choose whether you want default or you want a full panel from admin->settings->Wp NicEdit Settings page.
2.It allows you to do copy paste using keyboard shortcuts(not available in the older version).
For general information about the wp-nicedit ,please visit my post here http://www.thinkinginwordpress.com/2008/07/wp-nicedit-a-wysiwyg-comment-editor-for-wordpress/.There you will find the help on installation.Or use readme.txt included as a guide.
The current version of wp-NicEdit allows you to choose either the editor in default mode or in Extended mode from admin->settings->Wp NicEdit settings page.
Download the plugin from official plugin directory of wordpress here http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-nicedit
here are some more screenshots of the nic edit.
Please see the comment area of this page for a real world view of Wp NicEdit(note:I have enabled default mode)

Hello!It is very nice plugin but it is not working together with the WordPress Thread Plugin. In Firefox it is not possible to place the comment at all.
I noticed an interesting behavior – it allows only registered users to format their comments; for users who are not logged in, the formatting doesn’t show up after submitting
hi Anton
Thanks for dropping by.I have not checked it for compatibility with other plugins,but It is likely to conflict with any of the comment plugin which uses id “comment” of text area to manipulate the things.This editor sets the original text area with id “comment” to display:none,so a plugin using comment id as a way to manipulate can not find any element with id=”comment” .That’s why the issue is coming.I am a little bit busy with my projects,will certainly update you on weekend when I write a fix for this.
Thanks
Brajesh
@tapirul
It seem you are right.Thanks for sharing the fact.I checked and It seems you are right.I will post an update soon.
Thanks
Brajesh
Great plugin works great.Can you think of a way I could only enable this only for a specific page or post. With a little tweaking I think this could be a better way to have a user submit a “guest post” in a defined comment area of a specific page. It gives them a more advanced editor to use and I don’t have to allow them into my back end. I understand this is not your intent but the other options for this type of activity are unstable.
I love this text editor. I installed and tested it on my own site and found it far superior to the MCM text editor which won’t allow paragraphs unless the poster has Editor priveleges on the site.But…as mentioned above by tapirul, WPNicEdit doesn’t preserve the formatting in comments posted by people who are not subscribers to the site. That makes it useless for us, so I’ve had to deactivate it and go back to the MCM text editor. I was disappointed!Is there any chance that you’ll be able to fix that issue? Also, I noticed another thing. When I tried it out on my site, when I tried to submit each test comment, the first time I clicked on “submit”, it would just give me a massage saying (something like) “please write a comment”. The second time I clicked, it would work.. I think that most posters would just impatiently perform the second click, but some would give up and the comment would never be posted. Anyway, congratulations on an excellent plug in, and let me know if you think you can fix the issues I mentioned, because I would love to be able to use it.
Hi Brajesh,
Thanks for an excellent plugin!
I have a problem in that it works fine with IE, but does NOT work correctly with Chrome. When a user leaves a comment in Chrome, all line breaks are lost and the resulting comment is a solid block of text with no breaks.
I assume this is fixable, but didn’t know if you were aware of it for future version releases.
Thanks,
Andy Kaiser
I noticed that upon installation my comment preview as I type no longer works. And neither does the preview work by clicking the “preview” button.Any ideas?Thank you,Mark
This plugin generates a fatal error when activated in 2.7 I know it says it is compatible with up to 2.63 but 2.7 should release this weekend.

@Brandon ,There are two ways you can do the same,You need to edit and change the plugin to check if <?php is_single(‘id’);?>,this plugin should show,other wise it should not.But a better option for user submitted blog is you may try Role Manager plugin in combination with some post notification plugin.That will give you better manageability and more efficiency.If you have any issues,please let me know.I will instantly reply now onwards.

@Keza
Thank you very mush for the observations.I have already posted about the next version of the plugin.It will allow unregistered users to leave formatted comment then.By default wordpress strips all tags except the few allowd in kses.
I am incorporating this future in the next release.
For your second observation,I am trying to reproduce the error and will post a message again if I could reproduce the issue.
@Andy
Thanks for visiting .There has been an issue with webkit based browsers with the default wordpress editor(TinyMice),but I an not sure about NicEdit,after a little bit of posting ,I will update you tomorrow again.
Regards
Brajesh
@John
Thanks for dropping by.
The preview will not work as this plugin is not compatible with the comment preview plugin.But is the preview really required when you are already using a rich text editor.I am not sure.May be someone can help us to decide.btw,I am trying to make it compatible with preview plugin and may be that will work in the next release.
@prudat
Thank you for the observation.I already added your suggestion/observation for the next release of the plugin,you may have a look here. http://geekytalks.com/2008/12/updatei-am-still-alive-d.html
Just installed V1.0 on 2.7 and it work ok< except if used on nested comment reply. There is no focus on the form in fact its all greyed out. Interestingly there is the same issue with the tiny MCE plugin. Looks like nested comments conflicts with both plugins. Any advice??tia
Hi,
seems great…! Is it possible to use it WITH ajax comments ? I love the ajax effect on posting comments, AND i would like my commentators to be able to post nice comments
[...] WP Nicedit : It’s a comment plugin which use WYSIWIG form. So your visitor can use like rich style tiny MCE form to give any comments … [...]
@Richard
Hi ,yes, you are right.All wysiwyg plugin conflicts with ajax edit/preview plugin for comments.The reason,these wysiwyg editor plugin makes the id “comment”of textarea unavailable on your page(set as display:none) and uses iframes to create/provide rich text editor.
Since most of the ajax comment plugins relay on the id “comment” of the comment text area ,so they fail.I am also looking for a workaround,will let you know ,as soon as I get it.
Thanks for dropping by and letting me know the issue.
Brajesh
@LomiG
Thanks for your comment.please see my above explanation,in the above comment.all wysiwyg editors have the trouble with ajaxed comment plugins because of the same reason.
i am looking for a plugin that can make an editor in wordpresswidget, if
that widget contains a textarea .that is plugin should change textarea to Editer(in view page). Can You help me?
I really like this plugin ..But when i used threaded comment in wordpress 2.7.1When i hit reply ..The comment form can not be clicked ..any solution ??
I’m using nice edit successfully with tdo-forms. There is a small problem with line spacing, Paragraphs (returns) are separated with</p><br>and sometimes <p> </p> This is making huge line breaks. How can I fix this please??Thanks
Should have said … this only happens with ie not firefox
