well,Please have a look at the default theme in bp 1.1.1(or bp 1.1 “bp-sn-parent” theme.
here checkout the code for registration/register.php you will see all the codes. Now all the functionality of password remain in control of the theme authors. So you may incorporate this.

Thanks for the plugin! Though you wrote that BuddyPress doesn't need this, this plugin saved my day. I've spend some days installing WordPress 3 Multi Site with BuddyPress and multiple domains to add blogs to as a sub-domain AND some real domains that transparantly use a blog inside this installation.

After a lot of tweaking I ended up in a situation where the user was not able to select a password, but received a mail telling him to logon with his selected password, which was a pretty stupid and anoying situation.

Thanks to this plugin users are now able to select the password at sign-in again -and- still select the domain they want to start their blog under.

Thanks again!

hi Mac
Buddypress no longer needs this plugin. There have been some issues with buddypress causing the auto generated password to be sent. Please take a look at http://buddypress.org/forums and try a search, you will find the solution there.
Thanks

Hi. Good plugin, but my users have problems. After registration they received e-mails with activation link, and there is their auto-generated passwords on WP MU. Why?
(these passwords don't work, but it can upset users)

hi
are you using buddypress 1.1.x or buddypress 1.0.3 .This plugin works with the older version.
the buddypress 1.1 already contains this functionality built in to its core .btw, what is the problem on your signup page.

You mentioned that bp1.1 has inbuilt facility for user created passwords and your plugin will not be needed. I can not find any way to configure this in bp1.1. Can you share how to do this in bp1.1 without a plugin. Thanks!
